Tools and training
We are committed to making sure that employees have the tools, resources and training they need to succeed. In 2015, more than 125,000 unique users completed more than 5 million training activities in such areas as safety, regulatory and compliance, customer service, leadership development and office productivity.
Listening and sharing information
Employees are encouraged to use online communication and reporting tools and our company intranet site, Flying Together, which includes an employee Lounge section. These interactive tools allow employees to recommend or comment on articles, where feedback is shared with the appropriate departments.
Division leaders make town halls and base visits a priority throughout the year. Our leaders understand that employee involvement is critical to achieve business success. Ongoing visits and connection to frontline employees allows employees to express concerns and share ideas and demonstrates our commitment to employees to build a great place to work.
Through our Employee Advisory Group, employees representing a variety of geographic locations and work groups meet regularly to share their feedback with leadership. We seek their opinions on the employee experience and value their candid input.
United Airlines Scholarship Fund
The United Airlines Scholarship Fund (USF) awarded more than $1 million in college scholarships to employees and their children for the 2015-16 academic year. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $3,000. The scholarship program is funded entirely by employee contributions and fundraising efforts supported by business partners.
The United 100 program recognizes and rewards co-workers whose actions exemplify going above and beyond. Any employee may nominate another employee for this honor. In 2015, we received 7,214 nominations from all work groups. This shows an increase in nominations of 28 percent over 2014. United® salutes 100 annual winners with a special celebration. To further promote our special winners, we launched a special United 100 aircraft serving customers and airports in North and Central America. The Boeing 737-900ER (N69818) sports the United 100 program logo on the exterior and a plaque inscribed with all 100 winners’ names inside the plane.
