United's commitment to providing equal business opportunities is expressed through our Supplier Diversity Program. Over the years our program has grown into an integral part of United’s business operations. Today we view all our suppliers as key business partners who contribute to the bottom line.
We recognize and value our relationships with diverse suppliers is, by extension, a connection to the communities where we live, work and fly. We work to ensure that women, minority, veteran, service disabled veterans, persons with disabilities and LGBT business enterprises have the opportunity to participate in our bid opportunities.
In 2018, we made some changes to how we report our diverse numbers against previous years, including removing areas counting small business numbers as a differentiator.
As part of our efforts to attract and work with more diverse companies, we have hosted a Supplier Diversity Program every two years since 2010. In May of 2018, we invited 90 prospective suppliers from multiple industries to our Corporate Support Center in Chicago to learn about business opportunities with United. “By having this type of forum, we break down the barriers,” says Community Affairs Vice President Sharon Grant, who leads our Supplier Diversity Program. “We can’t have a diverse supply chain unless we open up our doors so that diverse suppliers can learn about us.”
We are extremely proud to have been named one of America’s Top Corporations for Women’s Business Enterprises by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, the nation’s leader in women’s business development, for the seventh consecutive year.
